The MINIMIST photography philosophy

MINIMIST began offering photography services about three years into doing business. I actually got a call from someone that wanted me for only photo, and after explaining what it is I actually do and what I am most passionate about, they hired me for both, and MINIMIST photo was born. They ended up hiring me for a handful of side sessions and cinematics as well. You can see their entire collection here.

With this new addition to the MINIMIST lineup, it was time to start considering the philosophies that would go along with it. One takeaway from having control over the entire content capture for a wedding was that I was able to get more interesting shots than I would have otherwise been able to if I had had to coordinate with an outside photography company for one main reason.

Visual Effects and Retouching Specialist

I spent a few years interning and then working for a high end photo retoucher. I was able to help work on and learn on images that saw the runways of NY Fashion Week. I eventually learned how to use these specialized skills to help in video as well. I have been able to remove objects and even people from video. You can learn more about that here. Knowing what was possible and how I needed to capture these things, I could get more interesting shots without worrying about being in the way. Just because I love a high fashion editorial portrait, doesn’t mean I want everything to be staged. Which brings me to my next tenant.

Photojournalism + Beauty Portraiture

As much as is possible for everything outside of portraits, I prefer to keep a photojournalistic style. People are at their most beautiful when allowed to just be themselves. We want our couples to have the opportunity to just be present to their day, and let us capture everything as it happens. With MINIMIST on your vendor team, you will feel that you are in good hands.
